My name is Akil Savant, and I am from Amreli, Gujarat. Currently, I am pursuing my second year of MBBS at AIIMS Rajkot. We are a family of four members—my parents, my brother, and myself.
I studied at Sarasiya Primary School till 5th standard. After that, I cleared the Navodaya entrance exam and studied free of cost at Navodaya from the 6th to the 12th standard. As my father works as a daily wage worker and my mother is a housewife, it was difficult for my family to afford private schooling and coaching classes.
From childhood, I always wanted to become a doctor, but it required good coaching to crack the NEET exam. After completing my 12th standard, I cleared the Dakshana Foundation exam and received one year of free NEET coaching in Pune.
After getting admission into MBBS, I realized that even in government colleges there are many expenses. My family managed the academic expenses, but we had to borrow money from relatives for my mess fees.
Then I came to know about AdiMahesh Seva Foundation and appeared for their selection process, which was very simple. I got selected for education assistance, and they are helping me with my mess expenses.
